BIM
Scan to BIM, building information modelling and infrastructure objects.
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
BIM is a process of intelligent 3D modelling where every element of a building carries information — material, dimensions, manufacturer, function. The result is a digital twin of the physical object, used for design, construction and asset management.
Scan-to-BIM: from laser beam to BIM model
MAP.ING specialises in the Scan-to-BIM process — scanning existing buildings with a laser scanner and converting the point cloud into a complete BIM model. This is invaluable for:
- Reconstruction and restoration — accurate as-built documentation of existing buildings;
- Asset management (Facility Management) — information model for building maintenance and management;
- Project coordination — clash detection and coordination of architectural, structural and MEP parts;
- Historic buildings and monuments — documentation and preservation of architectural heritage.
Our BIM services
- BIM modelling — architectural, structural and MEP models to LOD 200–400;
- IFC — open format for exchange between BIM platforms;
- 3D visualisations — photorealistic renders from the BIM model;
- Quantity takeoffs — automatic extraction of quantities from the model;
- Integration with laser scanning — see 3D Laser Scanning.
Standards and compatibility
We work according to BIM information management standards, drawing from the key strategic documents: EIR and BEP. Our models are compatible with leading 3D software products and any IFC-compatible platform.
